So far, the tools that I have discussed and shared are google classroom, google Expedition, and google suite for education.  The next tool I will discuss, and share, is the google Chromebook. Google Chromebooks come in all kinds of sizes, shapes, and prices.  They are durable for the use in school and can withstand the wear and tear of everyday use.

One of the benefits of having Chromebooks within a school is that the students can use their personal profiles from their google accounts.  Regardless where they login, they will be able to access their information.  This can include accessing emails, classroom assignments, grades, drive information, or other information from the classroom, library or at home.  If the student can take the device home, all the same security policies apply at home as well.  These devices can be shared throughout the classroom from one student to another, providing additional online resources for learning and collaborating.  Currently there are several school districts utilizing google Chromebooks in their institution.

The link below has an article on the use of Google Chromebooks in the Huntsville Independent School District.  They have over 6,300 students in 9 different campuses, ranging from ages 3-18.  They currently have approximately 800 Chromebooks and are continuing to purchase more.  With Google Chromebooks and with G Suite for Education, this school district has given more resources to the teacher and student, making learning more effective and efficient.

Looking forward for additional comments on Google Chromebooks for teaching and learning.

  1. Hi Billy,
I didn't use Google Chromebook before, so I just searched it through Google. In comparison, the simplicity and low cost of the Chromebook is attractive, so it is suitable for schools to use widely.

  2. Billy,

Excellent posts brother- my sons has been nagging me about google chromebook for his education. The issue is his schools uses microsoft accounts issued by the school. I believe they have the same type of applicability for education. However, with one exception- they go through a program called schoology- but I have to have an account and go through the EPISD parent portal in order to see his grades, email his teacher, and what not. So in short- I use his account to see what has been posted (homework, reviews, content material). I think google chromebook would be an improvement for the current system my 8th grader currently uses. Thanks for sharing- this is making me research some more and maybe, just maybe- I'll get him that chromebook hes been dying to have!

    1. Nick,

Thanks for visiting my blog and for the comments. My son has been asking for a Chromebook as well, I told him he has a laptop already and he mentioned the Chromebook is better. Maybe, sometime in the near future I will look at getting him one, maybe. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the applications your son's school uses.

  3. Billy,

Google has some very effective tools and the Google Chromebook is just another example of their innovation. I have never used a Chromebook, but I strongly believe in using tools like these to get rid of clunky books which cannot be searched as efficiently as digital books. Great post, thanks.

    1. Chuck,

Thanks for visiting my blog and for the comments.I have not had the opportunity to use a Chromebook either, but plan to sometime in the near future. I agree, it is great not to carry books around. Could you imagine how many books we would have to caring when we attended the SMC without a laptop? It will probably be a lot.

  4. Billy,

I see a lot of schools utilizing ipads and chromebooks nowadays. I was in high school not that long ago, but even we still had trouble accessing what we needed. For the most part students didn't have access to a personal computer at home, and most things are too difficult to use on ones phone. We would always rush to the computer lab at school any chance we had, because we had such limited time to get things done. There was a lot expected of us technologically, but we were put at a disadvantage. It is nice to see that students now don't have that same struggle.

  6. Billy,
Great post, very informative. I like the say that Google and Microsoft are linking all of their products together and have now branched out into laptops. I have a Microsoft Surface Laptop and it works well with Google and Microsoft products. My son goes to school at Chapin and he has been issued a MacBook which is a very good laptop as well. The versatility and innovation that Microsoft and Google being to education are very impressive. Thanks

  8. Billy,
Great post! So our program is all high school students and we use chromebooks daily. Every class has a set of chromebooks. We use them for most lessons. All of our students have their own log in, they share their work with every teacher and most classrooms have a google classroom to turn in work.
